CORUÑA CITY

 
Coruña is a city in the north of Galicia. This city was founded in 62 BC. It name was Brigantium in Roman times, and in 1140 Coruña's name was Cruña. The population in Coruña, in the past, was unknow.

In Coruña there are monuments and squares with the name of important people in the History: 
  • The Hércules Tower: It's a lighthouse built by the Romans, it was declared a World Heritage; it's the oldest funtioning lighthouse in the World.
  • María Pita square: It's the most important square of the city. In this square is situated the Town Hall of the city and a monument of María Pita. This woman was a heroine who defended Coruña againts the Britain Navy.
  • San Anton castle: It was an old fortress and prison, it was built in 16th century and now it's an archaeological museum.
  
 
Coruña's people are called "coruñeses". A celebrity citizen of Coruña was Emilia Pardo Bazán, she was born in Coruña on the 16th of september of 1851, and she died in Madrid on the 12th of may of 1921. Emilia was famous writer; but the most important celebrity person was the heroine Maria Pita.
